Continuous Assessment
Comments: An individual score (supervised assignment) and a collective score (mini-project)
Supervised assignment (2 hours): Carried out in the computer room with EIME software.
Online resources
All materials including copy of slides and practical work wording.
Pedagogy
Lecture (4 hours): Lecture with video projector and handout
Practical work (4 hours): learn how to perform a life cycle analysis with EIME software (computers with Internet access and Chrome required), video projector for the teacher
Example used: an electronic box (for computer network)
Visit (2 hours): Waste treatment Centre for electrical and electronic equipment at Lesquin city
Mini-project (12 hours in face-to-face session + 8 hours in autonomy) in a group: To practice eco-design on an electrical and electronic device (e.g. an electric coffee maker).
Practical aspects:
- Consumption measurement according to use (functional unit)
- Disassembly, material identification, weighing,...
- Impact calculation / life cycle analysis with EIME software
Methodological aspects:
- Define the scope of the LCA, the functional unit, the objectives
- Establish the life cycle inventory
- Carry out an LCA of the existing system, evaluate the impacts, interpret the results
- Propose product improvements (brainstorming, business repositories, ecodesign pilot, etc.)
- Make a comparative LCA between the existing and new designs
- Conclude and summarize
